DMV asked:

Can someone help me estimate the hourly operating cost of a
10 SEER heat pump at $.066/kwh? This would be just the heat pump and indoor fan running. I do know the heat pump is 220 volt. The fan probably just runs on 110 volts?
Ok yeah how much it’s going to cost to heat your home is not what I’m asking..obviously that depends on many factors. I just want to know how much it takes to operate the heat pump for one hour at the above electric rate. The heat pump and fan draw the same amount of electricity whether it’s 30 degrees or 50 degrees or whether your house has good windows or no windows at all.

heat pump to house subjected to ice storm exterior is covered with ice (approx. 80%) I don’t want it to get worse due to similar problem a couple of years ago which resulted in replacement of heat pump. Do I need to defrost? Or do I ignore and hope for the best. I have heard to either set to emergency heat mode or to set to cool. Any answers out there?

Help please. I’ve been looking into getting a heat pump for our pool. We could go solar, but don’t really want to because of the room needed for the panels. But I’m worried from some of the research I’ve done, that the heat pump won’t work well in our area, where the humidity level is very low. Our pool is 16×33 and our elevation is a bit over 3,000. We live in Idaho, and I don’t know of anyone here that uses this kind of heating. When I went to different pool companies here to ask about heat pumps, nobody knew what to say to me. If anyone has a heat pump and lives in a dry area, could you tell me if your happy with this system or not? Thanks

My heat pump’s outside unit is not kicking on every time, it is like every other time that the thermostsat calls for either heating or cooling. The inside blower does come on every time. I also get the Emergency Heat whenever the outside unit does not run. Please help me in troubleshooting.
The pump is definately not going to defrost. I have already replaced the thermostat with a Honeywell (problem existed before changing). I have tested the 24V signal to the contactor and it seems to be intermittent. Thanks for the responses so far, please keep them coming.

We have two rheem heat pumps installed in 2002. A couple months ago, one of the compressors has to be replaced and we had a specialist replaced it for us. Last week, when we turned on the heat and set the temperature to 70. The heating system won’t stop even through the room temperature had reached 75. We had the same person that replaced our compressor to check on the problem, and the solution he gave us was to change the thermostat. We purchased a new thermostat and had it replaced. The next day, our heat pump still won’t stop running and we had the same technician check on it again. The solution was still the same, something wrong with the thermostat and we have to buy another one. Can someone tell us what could be causing this?
We have installed a new thermostat today (the 2nd thermostate installed this week) and the heating system still won’t stop running. The guy open up the heat pump and found out that the compessor has burn out again. We just had the compressor changed two months ago, anyone know what’s causing the problem?
We have already spend more than $1500 on the repair of our AC/Heating system and it seems the problem haven’t been fixed. The repairer is going to reinstall the compressor next week. The guy was going to charge the labor fees for replacing the compressor, but after much argument about this, he is replacing the compressor for free. However, we don’t think the main problem has anything to do with the compressor.

I recently bought a home with an electric heat pump. I’m wondering if it will be cheaper to heat rooms with those portable oil heaters as needed, or just use the central heating. The heat pump is about 12 years old. Thanks

Last night my wife heard a pop sound come from our heat pump. She throught she heard water running. When I went outside to check I could hear air like a deflating tire that went on for about 7 minutes. We thought the heat pump had gone and made arrangements to sleep elsewhere. We put the thermostat on auxillary heat and we stayed warm all night. My unit is a Payne about 10 years old. Any ideas what happened?
