Happy Goat asked:

This is my first experience with a heat pump. It never blows out hot hair, only cool to luke warm air, though it eventually heats the house up.

If it blew hot air, it would seem it could heat the house much quicker.

Is this normal for a heat pump? Last place I had was gas heat and the vents would blow out hot heat and get very warm/hot quickly.

I just feel I’m wasting money and electricity by having the unit run so long to heat the house.

Is this normal of a heat pump because it is taking the air from outside?

flower_grower asked:

The fan sounded like it was still running this morning but wasn’t because the blades are “iced into” the ice on the inside of the coils. I turned to emergency heat and coils are still ice covered tonight. It’s below freezing right now so not too excited about hosing down the coils. Will it harm the unit to run while fan blades are frozen solid? What options do I have here? The heat/ac people have been here several times over the last 7 years while I’ve been learning the issues with a heat pump, never any major problems but I don’t seem to ever hear the hissing of it defrosting…… Thanks for any help!

Eric L asked:

I have an old heat pump w/ auxilary heat with 5 wires, Y, G, O, R, B. In the spring I bought a new digital tstat which ran the A/C fine all summer, now fall is here and the heat wouldn’t come on. Found out is was incompatible with a heat pump. Got new tstat which has E, Aux, Y, G, O, L, R, B, and C. I’ve got it wire like this now after some trial and error:

Unit - Tstat
Y - Y
G - G
R - R
B - Aux
O - B
Jumper from aux to E on the tstat

Problem now is with fan on auto, when I move the selector switch to heat the heat pump comes on and runs no matter what the set temp is. The unit is heating fine and the aux is kicking in when the tstat calls for it depending on the set and current temp, the auto control function is just not working.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have a feeling a wiring correction would fix it.

Thanks!

bulldoze2005 asked:

I had a Trane heat pump installed last year. This winter even though I was using mostly wood heat, I noticed my heat pump was running. My power bills were fairly expensive.

Today, even when I had the entire system set to Off, the heat pump was running and then cycling in defrost, all to run again.

When my thermostat is set at a higher temp than the house, it heats the house just fine. The only problem is that the pump just will not turn off shy of shutting it down at the switchbox.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Thank you!

toolvault asked:

Why I ask is because I bought a house that has a split unit with a avaporator coils on a air handler with natural gas heater in a closet and the condenser is on a pad outside. Someone came along and stole the condensor for the copper. I have a condensor from a heat pump and want to use in place of the stolen unit.
