Can climate control systems/HVAC be installed in ANY structure?
Filed Under HVAC | Comments Off
I am toying with the idea of building a large structure similar to an indoor horse arena/equestrian facility and would like it to be climate controlled. The builders I am looking at do not offer any sort of HVAC with their structures so I’d have to get it done separately. My question is, can HVAC systems be installed after the structure has been built or must it be “built in” to the structure during the initial construction?
Thanks.

Commercial Hvac Maintenance Economics 101
Filed Under HVAC | Comments Off
Air conditioning and heating maintenance is largely a matter of economics.
If you manage commercial buildings you know that there are two approaches to HVAC maintenance. One option is what we refer to as “break and fix”. The other approach is “scheduled preventive maintenance” with repairs as needed.
While the scheduled approach is intuitively the way to go, there are other factors, not so readily apparent, that reinforce the validity and economy of this approach.
Deferred maintenance (break and fix) is costly in the following ways.
¨ Increased energy consumption
¨ Repairs are usually more costly because of a “cascading” effect in the system, where a small problem tends to cascade to other system components
¨ Occupant comfort and related productivity
¨ Poor reliability resulting in down time
¨ Premature equipment aging and the accelerated need to replace equipment
We can further elaborate on these factors as follows:
¨ Airborne dust and debris particles accumulate on heat transfer surfaces and air filters. This reduces air flow and heat transfer capacity, meaning you get less of the desired cooling, heating or ventilation capacity per unit of energy. This causes the machine to run longer at a lower efficiency rate.
¨ A loose or worn drive belt on the blower can cause the cooling coil to ice over and damage the compressor or over-heat the heat exchanger in winter. This is an example of the “ounce of prevention” adage and the cascading failure principle.
¨ The effects of poor reliability are quite obvious if you are a building manager.
A maintenance program is relatively low in cost and usually involves four visits per year to perform inspections and maintenance. A maintenance check list is developed and followed for each specific building and system.
There are examples of 30-year-old equipment which was properly maintained throughout its life and is still operating reliably.

Mitsubishi HVAC - Is It The Air Conditioner System For You?
Filed Under HVAC | Comments Off
Everyone has issues with heating and cooling their homes. Does anybody remember what spring and fall - those two times of year when you needed neither fan nor heater - feel like? It seems that in recent years, those two perfect seasons have been reduced to a week or two each year. Now most of the time is spent either trying to keep cool or trying to warm up. Is it any wonder that HVAC products have become so popular? Mitsubishi HVAC products, in particular, have been growing steadily in popularity.
Have we as humans lost the ability to adapt? It might seem like it. People are having a harder time adjusting to the climate changes that happen a couple of times a year. Perhaps we are getting wimpier as we are given access to more and more machines that reduce our need to adapt at all. After all, if you have a built in air conditioning system, you don’t need to learn to deal with the heat. You simply stay inside in your climate controlled home/office!
Another reason that the Mitsubishi HVAC products have grown in popularity could be that they have become much more affordable than they used to be. Air conditioning and central air systems used to be things that very few homeowners could afford. Now, the prices are such that almost every family can afford at least some form of heating and cooling system. Mass production of the products allows manufacturers to sell them at lower prices (because the profit is made up in number of units sold).
One thing is for certain: Mitsubishi is an industry leader and their line of HVAC systems are quite popular with families all over the world!

What is the minimum clearance around a HVAC unit (internal unit) needed when building a wall around it?
Filed Under HVAC | Comments Off
Hi,
I’m planning to finish my basement and need to understand the minimum distance needed for clearance around my HVAC furnace in the basement, when building a closet to contain it and the water heater.
It will have louvered doors to ensure proper flow of combustible air.

How can we repair a hole in an HVAC pipe?
Filed Under HVAC | Comments Off
My husband accidentally drilled a small hole through a copper pipe that is for the HVAC unit. When it happened compressed air rushed out of the hole. When we turned off the heat the rushing air stopped. He cut a hole in the drywall and exposed the hole. He decided to duct tape it and we turned the heat back on. It seems to be okay for now.
So, is the duct tape a decent fix? For now? For the long term? What’s it going to take to fix this?
Thanks!

Filed Under HVAC | Comments Off
I’ll be looking to get a job a building maintenance and it will eventually require HVAC certification. I will not be doing HVAC work continually but from time to time will need to work on the systems(residential and commercial tenant units). Will it be possible to study for the test and then take it? What levels of certification are there and what is most likely required for apt. building maint? Is classes required? What is the test like and what can I expect? Is there something online or avail. at the library that would help me get certified?

What bolts need to be removed to get the hvac housing off a 2001 dodge ram 1500?
Filed Under HVAC | Comments Off
I have removed every visible bolt from under the hood and under the dash. I have removed the bracket in the middle floor board on the airbag computer. I have detached all lines that run into the hvac housing, but the housing will not move! Are there any on the driver’s side that need removed? Any bolts anywhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The heater core. But, nevermind I found the damn thing hidden behind a plate that mounts the three relays.
