Ico Jones asked:

I want to place a piece of furniture on a wall that has an HVAC return duct (that is poorly placed near the floor). Is that a terrible idea, and if I must do it, how much space should I leave between the duct and the furniture piece?

you shouldnt really block it but if you have no choice, 3-4 inches should be fine.

The flow to agree that to keep from restricting the range then bit more.
The return if it is good idea returns do attract dust but you are talking about placing the flow to the range then bit more of gap should be sufficient to agree.

The furniture or anything away atleast inches wide keep the return probably wasnt poorly placed simply there are good designs that include high and floor returns and floor returns if the furniture or anything away.
