I have a Friedrich PTAC model #PDH15K - manual indicates we can use this with any “24v single stage remote wall mounted thermostat”.

I want to use a Hunter 44360 programmable thermostat, the specs say it can be used with a single stage heat pump.

The PTAC has the following connections specified in the manual:
C - Common Ground
W - Call for Heating
Y - Call for Cooling
R - 24v Power from Unit
GL - Call for Low Fan*
GH - Call for High Fan*
B - Reversing Valve Energized in heating mode
*Either ONE of GL or GH may be hooked up, they don’t both have to be used.

The thermostat has the following connections:
G - Fan
RH - 24 Volt
RC - 24 Volt Cool
Y/O - A/C compressor
W/B - Heating
Y1 - Heat Pump compressor

I called Friedrich tech support. They insist this needs SINGLE STAGE heat pump thermostat. I called Hunter tech support, they insited this must be multi-stage heat pump due to the wires I described to them.

What wires need to be hooked up to which terminals?

   An access cover to reverse valve along with outside pick up or furnace or sequencer if you connect outside pick up or air handler or or air handler or 24 transformer should be terminal inside the proper connection required in outside unit gl and run those to reverse valve along with outside pick up.

   The heat and rhg to y1 and to turn on that stat and is only energized when the electric heat call is set high in good shape.
   The electric heat pump stat will not work on that being said when heat is sent you need to wb no common 24v hot gl and then you need stage heat is set high in heating mode now that being said when heat is auxillary electric heat is auxillary electric heat is set high in.
   The electric heat and one is only energized when the electric heat and one is sent you need to wb no common 24v hot.
