Mike Z asked:

my newly insalled HVAC system,(less then 2 weeks run time) p trap froze over the winter and cracked the elbows, p trap is located outside the drain pan (this is my question) the water ruined the ceiling, the installer told me this is normal to be outside the drain pan, also should his insurance cover the damage?

the P trap is always below the pan it always has water in it the sameway any house drain p or s trap has water in them it is a plumbing code. The trap froze over the winter and split causing the condensate water from this seasons runoff to leak and ruin your ceiling. Many installation s have a second drain pan. As far as the insurance its hard to say. they may deny the claim at first but they should pay the claim.
