AirDevil asked:

I live in NC so the temperature rarely goes below freezing and if it does it’s only for a few hours. The hvac fan unit outside of my house is freezing up. This is the unit that everyone has outside of their house, nothing special. it is used for both central A/C and electric heat. What is causing this? / Is this a problem I need to be concerned about? I have never had this problem until recently. The last time it happened it did end up thawing itself out.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Water is getting in there. Put a piece plywood on top to make a roof over it.

Your A/C has a refrigerent leak which needs to be repaired and the system re-charged up

For heat pumpit happens most often when its 34 degrees and drizzling rain as the condenser isnt big.
For heat pumpit happens most often when its 34 degrees and drizzling rain as long as long as the condenser isnt big ball of ice you need to worry about if it is big ball of ice theres nothing to have the condenser isnt.
